End of school news:
This summer help your child to stay in shape. The best way for children to do this is by having lots of fun: Playing outdoors, going to the park, taking a walk with their family, or trying out a new sport. If at all possible and safe, children should walk to their friends, the library or to their daycare. On rainy days they can turn on some music and dance, or practice jump rope. A jump rope is an inexpensive toy, needs little space and provides excellent aerobic workouts.
The US government recommends that children exercise 60 minutes on all or almost all days.
I wish you and your family a nice, relaxing summer.
Enjoy,
Mrs. Patterson

Turkey Trot and Turkey Trot Make up Races

We had to have the Turkey Trot inside, because it had drizzled all day long and the students may have slipped on the wet leaves.  So we had fun in the gym instead.  All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, who had signed up did about 15 minutes of speed walking to loud music.  Then we raffled off 15 turkeys, and each participant received a turkey note pad.
Since we had six 1st place medals we held races among all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes to determine the fastest boy and girl from each grade.  Congratulations to all who participated in either event!

Hello Longfellow families,

Welcome to another year of fun and fitness in Physical Education!

This is Elisabeth Patterson, your Longfellow PE teacher. I also teach Adapted Physical Education, which is PE for children with disabilities, at Lincoln School. Mrs. Noel, the PE teacher from Hatch School teaches some classes here, too, and also does tastings for our 2nd graders. In P.E. students practice skills, play games and learn dances.

My goal is for each child to experience joy with movement, and therefore continue to stay physically active throughout his or her life.
